I'm trying to get started on my correspondence courses, before I hit E4, and I just bought a CAC reader today at the PX. I know you can't just plug and go and that there are certain certificates you must install before being able to use your CAC on your personal computer.

I see a lot of snark and very little info, so from the IT's Fingertips here is the answer.
First off you need to make sure that your Command / Branch has webmail enabled. The Navy and Air Force have it so I would assume the Army does. Once you know the web address and default server location you can access it was a CAC. Let me explain, When I login to my NMCI webmail account my server is hosted on the East Coast so I login to https://webmail.east.nmci.navy.mil/owa/ if I was on the West coast it would be https://webmail.west.nmci.navy.mil/owa/ When I use my Air Force account its https://scottapc.mail.us.af.mil/TermsOfUse.aspx because my mail server is at Scott AFB. If you are on WIN10 you don't need a lot of software all you need is the government certificates. https://militarycac.com/ has a really easy step by step guide and links to all you need. I have used them and have directed many of my shipmates to it. They cover all platforms. The only other thing you need is a CAC reader. You can buy them at the Exchange, Amazon, or ask your command Comms people if they have an extra you can use at home. If you have anymore questions on this just shoot me a message.

First set up a server in your bathroom. Then have all of your official correspondence routed to and through said server. Don't forget to get a copy of BleachBit as well.
